INDIAN CRICKET TEAM'S SHORT SELECTION IS FARCE

Even before the seven match series started I gave a hint that both Suresh Raina and Yuveraj Singh are good for nothing as they are scared of short pitched deliveries and swishing outside the stump is their main weakness.  The maintained that and proved me right in the series.  I can select a better Indian side.  The side always play for do or die matches most of the time and that shows their inherent weakness.  Haad the pitches in India are pacy like the one Mohali we could have lost the series by now. In spite of India's defeat at Mohali, Ishant Sharma is retained in the side for the next four matches for Star sports cup matches. Such a poor display of bowling by Ishant Sharma could have cost his place in the side in other countries.  But selectors lack the much needed acumen to give a long rope to spent force like Ishant Sharma.  It is time to infuse young blood instead of trying a tested Ishant Sharma all the time.  We have talented tearaway fast bowlers from Delhi, Haryana, UP, Punjab and Kerala and trying a tired bowler is a futile attempt.  Even if the traumatised bowler from the Indian team take five or six wickets in the remaining games, he has caused the damage to Team India, which is irreparable and will be talked for years.  In the past we saw cricketers getting few chances and sent to domestic cricket but in the present team even passengers are getting repeated chances and still fail miserably.  Take the case of Subramaniam Badrinath.  He is the prolific run getter in the Indian domestic circuit and considered the right person to replace Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar with his perfect batting technique.  Having played the pace of Dayle Steyn and selected as a replacement of Tendulkar several time he is an automatic choice in the Indian side when Sachin is going to leave than number 4 spot.  Instead we try Tom, Dick and Harry for that position. If you give a player n number of chances, then he is likely to succeed once in a blue moon.  That is the case of many Indian Cricketers and they retain their places as captain's men for a quite a long time.  It is time to build a strong Indian side leaving alone partiality as the selection satire make us weary decades after decades and the end result is just a defeat on a tough overseas tour. Let us revamp our side now.

Subject: Play Safe and cautious Diwali

Deepavali or the Festival of lights is an important and popular
festival celebrated throughout the country in one form or the other
except in Kerala.  It falls on the last day of the dark half of
Kartika(October-November). Deepavali is associated with several
legend.  One myth says that on this auspicious day Lakshmi, the
Goddess of wealth, roams about and visits the house of people. It also
commemorates the triumph of the good over the evil(or triumph of God
Rama over Ravana and Rama's return to Ayodhya.) It is also on this day
that Krishna killed the demon Nakasura.

A few days before the festival, the houses are whitewashed and
completely cleaned. The courtyards,  the gates and the place of
worship are decorated with bandnavars, flowers, intricate colourss
paperwork and at night every nook and corner of the house etc. is
illuminated with earthen lamps, candles and fireworks are displayed.
Sivakasi crackers are the best business with logos of Lion, Kuyil are
available all over India. After the crackers were busted we can see
Tamil news dailies spread all over the streets in pieces and cleaning
becomes an ordeal thereafter. People get up early in the morning in
the south and have bath and move about freely in an atmosphere of
gaiety, mirth, rejoicing and festivity. Lots of sweets are prepared
and exchanged. At night Lakshmi along with Ganesh is worshipped, old
accounts are closed and new accounts are opened with fresh account
books. In Tamil Nadu and other places new Cinemas are released on that
day and the people loved to see the first show to complete Deepavali
festival.

Deepavali also marks the advent of new season and the sowing of new
crops.  Thus, this great festival of lights symbolises man's urge to
move towards light of truth from darkness of ignorance and
unhappiness. It is wise to play safe during Diwali to avoid major fire
accidents.  The pollution in the air is harmful to lungs and people
have wear mask or stay indoors during the peak time when crackers are
burnt to the maximum. It is wise to go to Kerala during Diwali to
avoid getting submerged in poisonous cracker smoke in Mumbai/Navi
Mumbai.
One should take following precautions while bursting crackers:-
1. Light aerial display fireworks like rockets only on open grounds.
2. Keep fire extinguishers or buckets of water ready to deal with any
accidental fire.
3.Make not of emergency numbers to call in case of an emergency.
4. Keep toddlers and pets like dogs inside house while bursting fire crackers.
5. Do not keep burning candles near your firework cracker bag/s.
6. Do not try your hand in firing more than one cracker at a time.
7. Do not direct rockets towards buildings or towards nearby hutment.
8. Do not fire crackers in the middle of the road when the traffic is on flow.
9. Do not carry crackers inside a car other vehicles or in a local train.
10. Do not try a hand on home made crackers or making use of the fired one.
11. Do not show your face while firing a cracker.
12. Always fire crackers outside your flat.
13. Clear the area of all flammable material before you start bursting crackers
      including cars and motor vehicles.
14. Keep tiny children away from fire crackers.
15. Ensure an adult supervision while firing crackers.
16. Use agarbattis instead of sparklers or a lighted matchstick or a
candle to light       fire crackers.
17.  Do not wear loose clothes while firing crackers.
18. Put all the burnt fire crackers inside a metal contained and dispose them.
19. Make sure if a fire cracker fail to take of or burst leave it
alone in one corner.
20. As the fire crackers suddenly burst do not pass it on but throw it
to remote             Corner to avoid fire accidents.
If ensure that all the care is taken with prudence then we celebrate
safe Diwali.

DIRTY TRICKS

Ball tampering issue came to prominence last week when Du Plessis the South African player was fined 50 per cent of his match fee after admitting tampering with the ball during the third day of the second test against Pakistan. Du Plessis used pocket zip to roughen the ball and the was caught in the camera and the umpires spotted the unfair method of rubbing the ball to the trousers.  Ball tampering is part parcel of world cricket and it is not a new one.  Pakistan after being bundled out for 99 in the first innings feel the pinch as they were facing defeat.

This is not the odd case on the cricketing field and it is the oldest profession to change the shape, remove the shine or to keep shine on one side, or to roughen the entire ball to get better grip for spinners or to get reverse swing for medium pacers.  Soda Water bottle cap spread in the boundary line helped our Ranji cricketers to roughen the ball when the ball is hit to the boundary.  As there were no camera for Ranji games, players deliberately waited in the boundary line and made sure that the ball is roughened up to the desired level before throwing the ball back to the bowler. Pakistan pacemen were the best in the business once upon a time but others learned the art by experience.  India's Manoj Prbhakar used to reverse swing the old ball to perfection and taught the act to Kapil Dev, the then captain of the side and highest wicket taker in test cricket at one point of time at 432 wickets, surpassing 431 wickets of Richard Hadlee of New Zealand.  In school and college level cricketers, players used to apply hair oil in their person to keep the shine on the ball going. Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi (jr) rolled the new ball on the turf to remove the shine and for the early introduction of Bedi and Prasanna into the attack and the Indian Umpires those days were just sorry spectators as the Indian captain was doing the damage to the ball. Afridi went on to bite the ball in the field to make it rough and help Pakistan side to win at least one game.

Mike Atherton made it rather easy as he brought some dirt inside his pocket and on entering the ground and having got the ball in possession from the umpire after a break, he slowly applied dirt on the ball but was caught red handed in the process.  The worst of all the ball tampering was seen in India in the 1977-78 series against England. Tony Greig showered praise on our umpires on reaching India by saying that the Indian umpires are the best in the world.  And this send a wrong signal as our umpires failed to note Vaseline being applied by John Lever, the left-arm medium pace bowler playing test cricket for the first time finished as the best all rounder in his debut match as well the series.  He was keeping a capsule in his eye brow to prevent sweat entering but inside the capsule Vaseline was kept for easy application. Despite Indian Umpires officiating England were 3-0 up when in the next test Team India could win the Bangalore test with an under prepared wicket and most of the catches close in were taken of the pads and Indian umpires obliged and one Yujuvendra Singh created a new world record of 7 catches close to the wicket. Rahul Dravid was caught while applying lozenge to the ball but not penalised much. Sachin Tendulkar, the man in limelight picked the seam of the ball in South Africa (watch you tube-Sachin Picking the seam of the ball) and try to provide better grip to our spinners but left alone with least punishment.  It is all in the game and the Asian Countries Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka perfected the art to make best use in a cricketing field.  Now Du Plessis is punished for his offence and we have to wait and watch the next way of tampering in a cricketing field as the cameras are filming the dirty tricks and the umpires turn round and watch the bowler, when he goes to the top of the run before delivering the ball, such unfair methods should come down drastically in present day cricket.  Thus dirty tricks spoil the gentleman's game and most of senior cricketers did in different styles and used different methods to roughen the ball and give an extra edge to their bowlers. This is not the proper way playing cricket but they chose the option to meet success for their team by hook or crook. Dirty tricks continue to haunt International cricket.
