PLAY FOR A WIN

August 2, 2011 at 10:12pm
The major reason for the twin defeats is ineffective bowling changes by the captain, innocuous pace our medium-pacers and the inefficient bowling of our so called sole spinner in the side Harbhajan Singh. To add salt to the wound ordinary fielding made us to pay heavily when we chase a big total. Fitness level of key players is a cause of worry for some time but we play with them all the time thinking that they are indispensable in the side. The batting looked brittle and we always satisfy ourselves saying that the Batsmen select themselves in the side as though the upcoming players knocking the doors are good for nothing. When players with 17000 runs and 14000 runs fail miserably, how can we blame the new comers. A bowler with 400 wickets to his kitty is bowling pathetically and still finds his place in the side all the time and in all forms of the game shows our short sightedness. The second new ball was the turning point of the second test and Stuart Broad's hat-trick changed the fortunes of the English side. When we talk high about Rahul Dravid's innings, Bell powered his way to an English win. His run out dismissal was not in good taste at the first instance and Dhoni tried to make amends for his team's action. The hot spot failed to detect Laxman's snick and that helped India to achieve 67 runs first innings lead. Thereafter, England never looked back and it was an one sided game after Sunday afternoon. The Indian bowling team never turn up to play domestic Ranji or Duleep Trophy matches and so short of stamina and hence not able to bowl long spell of sustained bowling, whereas English bowlers had the measure of Indian super star batsmen all the time. Team India could not touch 300 run mark in the four outings but allowed the opposition to score tons of runs after getting early breaks. Broad batted well in both the innings and bowled well throughout the series, deservingly won the Man of the Match award. Our players involved in one day wonders and IPL Tamasha failed to live up to their home image and lost the test matches heavily and the threat of losing the number one Test spot looming large on Team India. It is indeed testing time for Team India.
